Akaroa French Festival 2021


Akaroa French Festival – A biennial festival celebrating the unique culture and heritage of New Zealand’s sole French settlement and the boutique harbourside town of Akaroa. Held over the weekend of 15th - 17th October 2021. Full of action kicking off on Friday night with the official opening and a party atmosphere through to a historical re-enactment of the original settlers arrival on Saturday morning at the beach. A Parade leads down to the Heritage Marquee for a French Market Day, food and wine, live music, stalls and entertainment. One of the highlights is Le Cabaret in the evening, stellar variety acts mixed with burlesque and comedy. Sunday dawns with La brocante a French inspired antiques and collectables fair and finishes off with Circotica Circus performances.

As part of Akaroa French Festival 2021 we announce Le Cabaret. Don't miss this fabulous evening of music, dancing, and fun. Joie de vivre! Doors open at 6.30pm. Fun starts at 7pm. Adults ticketed event with an amazing array of bands and entertainers including MC Mullet Man, Le Can Can and pioneer of the New Zealand burlesque scene Bonita Danger Doll.

HIGHLIGHTS


Held over the weekend of 15th - 17th October 2021, Akaroa French Festival kicks off with a party on Friday night. Saturday morning French Bay plays host
to The Landing, the historic re-enactment of the French and German passengers of the Comte de Paris who came to Akaroa to start new lives. From there The Parade moves the celebration down Rue Lavaud to the Akaroa Recreational Ground for the Jour du Marché (French market day). Food and wine, entertainment and much more. Saturday night plays host to a ticketed cabaret evening for the adults in the large marquee, with Can Can dancers, bands and burlesque entertainment. On Sunday there's still plenty to see and do including a French inspired antiques and collectables fair and Circotica Circus performances.

Akaroa French Festival is mainly a free family orientated event celebrating the unity of European and Maori cultures.

FOOD & DRINKS

You'll be spoilt for choice with a diverse selection of food and coffee vendors, various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available.

PARKING

Free parking is available around the streets of Akaroa village, but limited by the main beach and waterfront. Don’t drive if you intend to drink alcohol.

FAMILY FUN

Family entertainment is at the forefront of our festival with plenty to see and do including market stalls, French games, fashion show, music and entertainment.
